Balanced Perspective Counseling Services
Cynthia Rae, LMHC

People often see a counselor because they are unhappy with the way things are, but they are afraid to change or are unsure of the path.  I see my job as helping you clearly identify what you want and need (gaining perspective), and together, developing a plan to get you there--in other words, working toward a more "balanced perspective".  We live in a world that is constantly changing.  Having the tools to move through change gracefully, and with confidence significantly reduces depression, anxiety, and stress.

I use a variety of techniques to help you reach your goals including cognitive-behavioral therapy (identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and changing them), biofeedback, mindfulness meditation, relaxation and stress reduction, EMDR for trauma and anxiety work; play, sand tray, and art therapy for children or individuals who are less verbally inclined; and couples/ relationship therapy based largely on the research of Dr.s John and Julie Gottman from the University of Washington.

I work with individuals, families, children, and adolescents who typically present with issues around relationships, work/school performance, depression, anxiety, and trauma.  I have special training in Gottman method couples therapy, Play therapy, Parenting, and EMDR.
